Obesity more dangerous than terrorism

That’s the headline from this conference at Oxford. Looks like it’s time to move the Homeland Obesity Advisory to “corpulent!”

    I think the idea is that getting fat is more voluntary than being the victim of a terrorist attack. The government is fine letting you harm yourself, so long as it’s expensive and unpopular to stop you.

    I don’t actually disagree with the conclusion — diet-related health problems probably are far more dangerous than terrorism. It’s just the comparison of obesity to terrorism to generate hype, funding, and paternalist laws that I have a problem with.
