I believe in Harvey Dent

The teaser trailer to The Dark Knight, sequel to the excellent Batman Begins, is up now. Christian Bale as Batman, Heath Ledger as the Joker, and Aaron Eckhart as Harvey Dent… can’t wait for this.

View the trailer here.

In other comic news, the initial cast for Watchmen, which I have a hard time picturing as a movie, has been announced.

  1. I really like all of that casting, except two things:

    1) None of them are old enough, except Jackie Earle Haley and Jeffrey Dean Morgan. They should all be mid-forties, in my opinion, while all of the cast listed is about 15 years too young (in looks, if not in actual age). On the other hand, give them a bit of gray hair, and some wrinkles, and it should be fine. This way they can play their younger selves better.

    2) Jackie Earle Haley was great in Little Children, but I don’t think it was a role from which one can gain a lot of confidence about his range. I think he can fit the personality profile of Rorschach just fine, so as long as he keeps the mask on, it’s fine. But I’m skeptical as to whether Jackie Earle Haley can project the kind of violence that he needs to for that role.

  2. I practically had to change my shorts when I saw the teaser before “The Simpsons Movie”. I have heard rumors that Aaron Eckhart won’t just be playing Harvey Dent in the movie, if you know what I mean, but I hope they save most of that for the third movie so they can devote lots of time to the Joker.

Not familiar enough with “Watchmen” to comment on that one, other than to say that it sounds like “The Incredibles” borrowed some plot elements from it. Should be interesting though.

  3. Yes, I’m curious to see how they handle the “transition” as well.

Watchmen is absolutely worth reading. Arguably the highest achievement in comics with some truly beautiful moments in it.

I haven’t see the Incredibles or Ratatouille, but a friend suggests the former is basically Atlas Shrugged and the latter The Fountainhead. Make of that what you will.
