I agree that that place seems amazing. I love root beer and trying new ones.
However, I must disagree about the corn syrup comments. I’ve often heard the fears of the product, but I’ve also read that it’s much ado about nothing. Additionally, last passover I went to the local grocery store and purchased bottle of kosher coke and regular coke. Then myself and about 5 friends blind taste tested both. Every single person chose regular coke over kosher coke. Sure it’s a small sample size, but I just don’t buy the hype.
@Robert S. Porter: I’m also skeptical of many of the health scares surrounding HFCS. I do think there’s something to claims about taste though. I’ve tried both the Mexican Coca-Cola and Dublin, TX Dr Pepper and like them more than their usual counterparts. However there may be other factors at play — slightly different recipes, glass bottles — that are also affecting the taste, so it’s hard to be certain.
I disagree on the sugar vs. corn syrup issue. I don’t really take a position on any of the issues of health, but on flavor, hands down sugar wins. I’ve done the taste test with Coke with about half a dozen folks and everyone prefers the sugar variety once they try it. I honestly didn’t know if I would care one way or the other before I tried it. Now I’m a convert.
That said, I love this guy. When he’s ranting about the government, he reminds me of my shoe repair guy. He’s a small business owner who fled New Jersey, so he’s very bitter and very funny.
I live in LA. He’s in another part of town that I don’t often (ever) frequent, but I’ll definitely give it a shot now. I’ll let you know how it is.
We lived a few blocks from Galco’s for the last two and a half years. We lament not having it around now all the time.
