Mike and Jaro’s GOP convention coverage

As this is a quasi-political weblog, I feel like I should engage in at least a little commentary about the Republican convention. Mike Mott and I were making quips throughout Bush’s speech tonight and now we present you with this:

The Top Ten Disappointments of President Bush’s Convention Speech

10. Subdued blue tie instead of power red tie. How the Hell are we supposed to win the War on Terror without a power tie?

9. Not enough gay bashing.

8. Only two protestors got in… and we didn’t get to see their tits.

7. Bush mentioned his daughters in his speech… and we didn’t get to see their tits.

6. “No dejaremos a ningun nino atras.” WTF? We defeated El Nino years ago.

5. Bush correctly spelling out “O-B-G-Y-N” instead of reading “ahb-gin” off the teleprompter. That would have been hilarious.

4. Apparently, the strongest nation supporting us in Iraq is El Salvador.

3. What, no France jokes?

2. Bush blamed the little white-haired woman up there for his bluntness… and we didn’t get to see her tits.

1. “I accept your nomination for president of the United States.”

  2. Frankly, before this point in time, I never considered the words “Barbara Bush” and “tits” in the same context. The world was a better place back then.

  3. Of course, it all depends on which Barbara Bush we’re talking about here.

  4. Well played Mike

  5. Hmmm gentlemen, your politics is heavily tits-weighted. Should implants for first wives come be considered campaign costs?

    Comment by Alina — September 7, 2004 @ 4:36 pm

  6. Since the military is handing them out to servicemen’s wives and both Kerry and Bush are playing up their military side, maybe the taxpayers should fund them.

  7. Hey, it’s a public good, right?

  8. Not at all concerned about the Bush-bashing, but considerably by the Beevis and Buttheading–might there be a more intelligent and politically relevant way of knocking the pres., other than by demeaning women?

  9. I’m sure there are many more intelligent and politically relevant ways to cover the convention. Readers can find them on countless other weblogs, magazines, and newspapers.

As for demeaning women: men like breasts, and I’m comfortable enough with my feminism that I’m willing to make a few jokes about liking breasts. This is my forum and I’m not going to let politically correct tastes get in the way of the occassional dip into sophomoric humor.

  10. Yeah, BYU person, its really all in fun. Chill. Oh, and Kerry Sucks. andycoz.blogspot.com

  11. Having an appreciation of breasts and being respectful of women aren’t mutually exclusive or women’s rights wouldn’t have chance. However, finding women attractive has very little to do with the point on hand. Rather it’s the insensate “tit”–dropping to inspire cheaply gotten giggles, and juvenilish muffled snorts, in place of true cleverness. It’s ugly and evidence of a pernicious sort of mysogyny manifested in a patronizing carelessness that leads men to believe they are entitled to all sorts of behaviours that I am really tired of putting up with every day. And Taco Boy, though I tend to lean left, I don’t like Kerry either. Next election maybe I’ll run with the Eco-feminists. Down with men! Up with the animals! Okay, so I’m teasing; enough said, I’m off the soapbox. Boys, have a great afternoon and play nicely with the women.
